Beard Balm
Beards have gained such a following that more and more men are growing one of their own- but you can spot a cared for beard as opposed to one left to its own devices from a mile away. Don’t let your beard call the shots for you, learn more about beard balm and its benefits here.
What is Beard Balm?
Essentially, beard balm is a long-term way of moisturizing, conditioning, and styling your beard. Facial hair has a tendency to grow in stubbly and scratchy, and an unkempt beard has the possibility of turning into a wild, dry, patchy mess if not well cared for and properly maintained. Beard balm acts as a leave-in conditioner that softens your hair follicles, boosts growth, and seals in the moisture for long-lasting styling and shine. An added benefit of beard balm is the light scent integrated into the product. Think about all the crumbs that have fallen into your beard- you’re going to want to make sure it’s kept clean and fragrant.
Beard Balm vs. Beard Oil
So now you know that beard balm provides moisture and you’re maybe thinking, isn’t that what my beard oil’s for? At a certain point, choosing between the two is a matter of preference and what kind of beard you’re sporting. However, both have their own place in your facial hair repertoire.
Beard oil is a one-size fits all grooming accessory, specifically marketed for the beginning of your beard to get your skin and hair through the early stages of adapting to having an epic length of chin mane on it. It’s an easy and convenient moisturizer that absorbs quickly into your skin, making it better for shorter beards as it can be difficult to work fully into longer ones. Typically, longer beard owners utilize beard oil for their skin and then beard balm to soften and style their beard afterwards. Beard oil gives users of all lengths an added shine, beard balm provides softness and easy stylability, making each great products for beards of all shapes and sizes.
Beard balm, on the other hand, has a thicker texture and higher viscosity, similar to pomade. It takes longer to absorb, making it easier for longer beards, and once it does absorb it offers longer lasting conditioning and nourishment. It provides more gloss to your hair than balm would and offers more of a styling factor, you can use it to provide shape to your beard, sideburns, and mustache.
One further benefit that beard oil provides is its use as a skin moisturizer. It was actually created to be used for skin as well as facial hair. Have tattoos? Beard oil works to keep the ink bright and clear. Not rocking a full beard yet but have really dry, cracking skin? This will soothe and hydrate the driest skin and protect it from cold or dry air.
Both beard balm and beard oil have benefits and fit different needs for your skin and hair. It’s perfectly fine to use both, and can in fact provide you with a beard that’s shiny, groomed, and formidable, just be sure to not overdo it. As with any new hair or skin product, start slow and easy and build up. When making use of both products, use beard oil before beard balm so that the balm can lock in that extra moisture.
Using Beard Balm
For best results, after washing your beard and allowing it to fully dry, place a dime-sized drop of balm into your hands and rub between them. Starting at your neck, work your way up your beard to your face, making sure you apply some to that skin as well. Then, spread your hands wide and run your fingers down your beard to stimulate growth.
Our selection of beard balms contain high quality, organic ingredients that are safely left in your beard once applied and are safe for use three times a day.
Beard Balm Ingredients
We craft our beard balm products with natural butters and coconut oil to provide gentle and natural moisturizer. Beeswax is included as a protectant to lock in the moisture. We use sweet almond oil for boosting growth and essential oils for that light, rejuvenating aroma. We do not make use of synthetic fragrances, as these often contain alcohol that leave your hair and skin dry and brittle or could cause breakouts. Our combination of natural ingredients protects your facial hair against breakage, reduces itchiness, and grooms your beard to perfection.
